Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumuş was born in 1972 in Aydın, Çine, Turkey. He graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1995 and became a specialist in Child Health and Diseases in 2000 at Ankara Dr. Sami Ulus Maternity and Children's Diseases Hospital. In 2005, he completed his neonatology sub-specialization at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine. He further advanced his expertise with a fellowship at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, USA, in 2006.

His academic career progressed steadily: he was appointed Associate Professor in 2010 and full Professor at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University in 2015. Beyond the classroom, Prof. Dr. Okumuş held significant administrative roles. Between 2016 and 2017, he served as the General Director of Health Services at the Turkish Ministry of Health. In this capacity, he was involved in national health initiatives, including Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) screening programs for newborns.
